Title: Virtual Intimacies on the Web 2.0: Semiotic, Discursive and Embodied Productions of Presence, Affect and Intimacy on Livestream Online Pornography Social Networks

Abstract: This presentation outlines the study I am developing as a Ph.D. candidate in the Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies Program in Applied Linguistics of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Within my research, I aim to analyze how web users deal with semiotic, discursive and embodied productions of presence, affect, and intimacy as they perform or watch erotic shows on livestream online pornography social networks. The overarching goal of the project is to understand how Web 2.0 users negotiate their pleasures and desires on the web using different linguistic and material resources. Furthermore, I am particularly interested in how people use technological instruments and devices to create embodied presence and a sensation of “realness” on the other side of somebody's screen, and how this contributes to new porn economies and digital labour arrangements.
